I was sub-contracted as a technical-editor for various World Energy Council (WEC) publications. The WEC publishes an annual energy sustainability index which ranks countries on several criteria. The resulting table is an overwhelming array of numbers and letters which make up each country's score. The 2013 publication is aimed at investors, so I designed a stock market style heat map system to allow them to 'speak to them in their own language'.
