A delegation of UK designers travelled to Jordan for a collaborative graphic-design project sponsored by the British Council. Banners were posted up along the main street in Jordan's capital city of Amman celebrating the UN’s Year of The Family. What does family mean? Is it your immediate blood relatives, your closest friends or close-knit community. The banners were displayed just 60 miles from the West Bank during the Blair/Bush era when tensions were high between the middle East and the West and also between Palestinians and Israelis. We found a lot of common ground and mutual respect with our Arab contemporaries and hoped our "Strength in Community" message would also resonate with the wider population.
